PROGRAMS RUNNING TERM 3 HOLIDAYS 2010

The Autism West "Fun with Friends" School Holiday groups are great ways for children to put in to practice the social skills that they have been developing over the school term. An Occupational Therapist will be running the groups and will select fun activities that aim to consolidate the children's social skills and develop friendships. The group will be held at Autism West with the possibility for a community outing in the second week.

COOKING AROUND THE GLOBE

img_cookjasTravel around the world and learn about a new country each week and prepare a dish from that country, run by a speech pathologist.

When: Runs Thursdays 26th August - 23rd September 
Time: 5:00pm-6:00pm (school age)

SMART ARTS and crafts

img_smartartSMART ARTS is a social art /craft group run by a speech pathologist so lots of language and social skills involved as well as lots of fun.

When: Runs Thursdays 26th August - 23rd September
Time: 3:45pm - 4:45pm (minimum age is 8yrs)
Where: Autism West 41 Broadway Nedlands
Member Cost: $25.00 per class, 5 week program $125.00 (individual classes not available)
Places limited to 4 -5 children

 

  SPORTS AND GAMES with Pauline Moran!

img_playgroundAimed at primary school children who need support to learn games to play at school or home. Games include chasey, skipping games, easy ball games and running games. Also includes indoor games such as snap, noughts and crosses and board games. Support is offered to children who struggle to remember or follow the rules.

When: Saturdays 7th August - 25th September * excluding 21st August due to Carol Gray workshop
Time: 12:00 - 1:00pm
Where: Carson Street Victoria Park
Member Cost: $40.00 per class, 8 week program $320.00 (individual classes not available)

WRITING FOR REAL with Pauline Moran!

img_writingAimed at primary school aged children who can write their letters but would benefit from improving their use of written communication. Includes activities to make writing fun. Fine motor skills including hand strength and pencil grasp are also addressed.

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP

img_socialskillThis group is specifically designed for 12-15 year olds and aims to develop friendships and social networks conversational skills personal hygiene, self care and presentation skills awareness of personal space and appropriate touch with friends. Run by an Occupational Therapist.

When: Wednesdays 4th August - 15th September
Times: 4.00pm – 5.30pm (12-15yrs)
Where: Autism West 41 Broadway Nedlands
Member Cost: $32.50 for a session, 7 week program $227.50 (individual classes not available)
Places limited to 4 -6 teenagers

BUSY BEES

img_interventionThis group is run by an Occupational Therapist and is filled with fun activities aiming to develop the following skills: Pencil and scissor skills Early sports skills Sharing and turn taking Following instructions

 LITTLE LEGENDS GROUP

img_legendsCome join the other little legends for a group packed with fun activities and games! This group is run by an Occupational Therapist and focuses on social skills required to play and talk together and sports skills required for ball games.

YES

Youth Engaging Successfully - YES is aimed at adolescents with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder. They will gain support in reaching educational and social demands in their senior school years. Members can talk confidentially with youth workers and trained staff to deal with any social or life skills they have. Each session will include refreshments organised and prepared by the group members so as to broaden their life skills.

CATCH MUSIC

Catch Music will aim to run a workshop during Term 3 or the Term 3 holidays. Their program is run by expereinced
Music Teachers with the aim of engaging children in music through singing, listening/responding, movement and playing
musical instruments. Some musical free play will enable the childre to explore musical activities which appeal to the individual.
